Elderly man killed, 8 injured in 2-car crash

SALAMANCA -- A 74-year-old man was killed shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday and eight other persons were injured in a two-car crash on Interstate 86 in Salamanca.

A female passenger in the car of the deceased was flown to the Erie County Medical Center for treatment of injuries, and seven occupants of the second vehicle were taken to Olean General Hospital. Salamanca police did not release names of the victims pending notification of their families.

The accident, which took place in the eastbound lane just west of the Parkway Drive overpass, is under investigation with the assistance of the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office.
